High-Speed Rail Corridor to Connect Iberian Host Cities in Under Three Hours
Spain and Portugal announce sweeping cross-border rail investments linking Lisbon, Madrid, Porto, and Seville for zero-emission fan transit.
LISBON, Portugal β Transport authorities in Spain and Portugal have unveiled a collaborative high-speed rail master plan designed to transport hundreds of thousands of international supporters between host cities without domestic air travel.
The cornerstone high-speed rail link connecting Lisbon and Madrid is advancing rapidly, cutting travel time between the two capital cities to under three hours. In addition, existing AVE corridors linking Madrid to Seville, Barcelona, Bilbao, and Zaragoza will allow fans to attend matches in multiple cities in the same week with zero flight connections.
Both governments highlighted that green intercity transit is a core pillar of the sustainability pledge submitted to FIFA, establishing an unprecedented environmental benchmark for global mega-events.
