Benfica's Dominance: Santa Clara Stunned in Primeira Liga Thriller
Benfica asserted their authority in the Primeira Liga
Benfica's star-studded attack proved too hot to handle for Santa Clara, as the reigning Primeira Liga champions secured a comprehensive 3-1 victory. The visitors' high-intensity pressing game paid dividends early on, with Joao Mario's clinical finish putting Benfica ahead after just 12 minutes. Santa Clara struggled to contain the relentless Benfica attack, with the hosts' midfield trio of Julian Draxler, Enzo Fernandez, and Goncalo Ramos dictating the pace of the game.
As the match wore on, Santa Clara's defensive vulnerabilities were exposed, with Benfica's pacey wingers, Darwin Nunez and Haris Seferovic, causing chaos down the flanks. The Portuguese giants' second goal came courtesy of a beautifully worked team move, culminating in Fernandez's expertly placed finish. Despite a late consolation goal from Santa Clara, Benfica's dominance was never truly threatened, as they claimed a hard-fought three points.
