Historical Legacy

Opened on 8 September 1957, La Romareda has been the stage for Real Zaragoza's golden eras, including six Copa del Rey triumphs and the unforgettable 1995 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. It hosted three matches in the 1982 World Cup (featuring Yugoslavia and Northern Ireland) and was an Olympic football venue in 1992.

Architectural Innovation

Designed by IDOM, the new stadium is being built in phased demolition from 2024 to 2028. The design pays homage to the Cierzo, the powerful north-westerly wind of Zaragoza: its aerodynamic facade curves gracefully around the stands, while a state-of-the-art continuous roof ensures 100% weather protection and superior acoustics.

World Cup 2030 Roadmap

Positioned along Spain's central high-speed rail artery midway between Madrid and Barcelona (just 75 minutes from each city via AVE), La Nueva Romareda is a logistical linchpin of the 2030 tournament, scheduled to host competitive group fixtures and round of 32 games.
